Dr Prabhas Kumar Singh: A Leader of the mass at the grassroot of Odisha

It is believed politics is the last resort for the youths who are unemployed in India. And the states of West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh stand as a testimony to it. These are the three states where different political parties grooming dreaded criminals for their selfish motive. It’s an irony as in India none of the parents ever induce their children either to be a leader or a politician. All that we wish our children to be either doctors or the software engineers when they grow up, so as they can earn a handsome money to lead a cosy life. In the present scenario we not only need able farmers, hardworking labourers, risk taking entrepreneurs, but all along we require visionary politicians as well to lead our country in the global race.

Dr Prabhas Kumar Singh the Member of Parliament(MP) of Bargarh Constituency. He is a leader of the mass of this region which is called as the “Rice Bowl of Odisha”. It is essential to note contrary to the political scenario of North India this politician is a highly qualified individual. He has altogether acquired a Doctorate in ancient Indian history, archaeology and culture. Prabhas could have lead a decent life, but this fellow was carrying the genes of a royal clad in his blood which made him enter politics altogether. Maternal grandparents of Prabhas Singh were the offspring of the Chauhan Dynasty who ruled the Kingdom of Sambalpur for two hundred years or so until the invasion of British. His father was a Sarpanch. Everyday people used to gather at their home to address their problems. That is how Prabhas got acquainted with the common men who are living at the grassroots of this area.

Prabhas was born at village Bhatigaon of Bargarh district. He was a sincere student in school, college and University. Every day religiously he was attending his school without skipping a single class. He was utmost sincere in his studies. In those days there was no trend of private tutorials so he had to do self-studies. At evening after returning from school he was playing with friends for two hours on the street. But when sun sets he was returning home. For next two hours he was doing his school homework all of himself and at times taking guidance of his father and eldest brother Dipti Kumar Singh.

After acquiring post-doctoral in History he worked in different capacities with INTACH(Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) and Odisha State Museum at Bhubaneswar. While over there in the state capital of Odisha when any person of his village seek medical help and treatment, doors of his home at Bhubaneswar were always open for so long their troubles were resolved. This is how initially Prabhas gathered trust of our people even before he set any political ambition in his life.

By nature Prabhas is a very humble man. Despite being a MP and core member of BJD he is always connected with people at the grass root of his constituency. So sharp is his brain when he travels in different villages of his Bargarh constituency he greets every individual while pronouncing their names. He never hesitates to drink a cup of tea if offered by any one on the pavement of their homes. While referring him people of his Bargarh constituency says as “amar MP Agyan”, which literally means “our MP Sir“.He is an asset to the ruling Biju Janata Dal(BJD) party of Odisha. He is a close associate of the Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik.

Dr Prabhas Singh was the key man on construction of the railway overbridge at Jaganath Nagar, Barpali; renovation of Damodar Kanta(pond), Bijepur; creation of new Notified Area Council(NAC), Bijepur. Under his initiative the postal railway service has been opened at Padampur for booking of railway tickets. The National Science Center to be inaugurated soon at Bargarh town itself. He has taken the initiative of operating number of Mobile Health Vans in Jharsuguda District. Under his initiative  District Mineral Fund has been used to source water from Hirakud Dam to Jharsuguda, Brajrajnagar and Belpahar towns. 1. Shri Prabhas Kumar Singh is leader of masses, always connected to the grass root, working towards betterment of downtrodden Nowadays we hardly find leaders of this Calibre devoting their time, energy for the benefit of his constituents. In other words he is a true king. At the time of election Eve, author has written neutral view about Shri Prabhas Kumar Singh.
