Jagannath Sahu : At your Mercy

Jagannath Sahu is a 26 years old young man who hails from Barpali. He is son of Mamraj Sahu who sells vegetables at Barpali vegetables market. Mamraj is managing his home out of a meagre income that  he earns on a day today basis. Since April 2022 Jagannath has fallen sick with malfunctioning of his two kidneys.

The incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is assuming alarming proportion in Western Odisha. The disease, which was earlier confined to specific pockets, is fast spreading its tentacles to different districts of the region. One of the major reasons for kidney failure is consumption of hard water which is present in the ground.

Mamraj took his son Jagannath from doctor to doctor. Finally the ailment detected to be kidney failure. Jagannath was referred to Veer Surendra Sai  Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla for dialysis. The nephrologist told Jagannath need a kidney transplant. His father Mamraj Sahu who have got the same blood group i.e. O+ve  prepared to donate one of his kidney.

On each dialysis they are spending around 25,000 INR. Until now they have spent 4 lacs on regular dialysis of Jagannath. Dialysis need to be done periodically twice every week. Jagannath will die the day dialysis is stopped.

Doctors have recommended to do kidney transplant at the earliest. Fortunately the blood group of his father Mamraj matches with Jagannath. The transplant could be done at Ramkrishna CARE Hospitat, Raipur. The budgeted expenses for the transplant is around 8 lakhs which  a vegetable seller like Mamraj cannot afford.
