Tweeple Chanchal Mishra : Fighting for Social Justice

In an average every day an Indian spends two and half hours on social media. It won't be wrong to point out, whatever time that you are spending is all about unsocial gossip. All this doesn't yield any positive results either for self or for the society at large. It causes  absolute wastage of prime time of your life. Yet there are a chosen few who are using these new age electronic media for the welfare of almost unknown persons across the state, nation and the globe.

The evangelist about whom we are talking here is Chanchal Mishra who hails from Balangir of Odisha. By vocation he works with the Road Transport Organisation(RTO) department. This person is not someone to be nailed to earth. His mind keeps on wandering.

His grandfather Late Chaturbhuja Mishra was a freedom fighter, and the then President of Sonepur Prajamandal. Chanchal was motivated on knowing about his service and the sacrifice that he made for the nation.

Once Chanchal received a message on his Twitter handle from one of his friends who hails from West Bengal. She said consequent to demonetization and the job loss a person by the name Madhab Nag of Bolangir district is stuck at Nagpur, Maharashtra and immediately seeks help. No sooner on getting the message Chanchal spoke with the concerned person and got to know about all the maladies that he has gone through ever since   losing his Job. Instead of  kick starting his bike and reaching anywhere, while sitting at home Chanchal just tweeted the issue and tagged #IndiaCares. He is a member of that voluntary social media platform, created to help countrymen by Odisha's erstwhile IG, Crime Branch, Sri Arun Bothra, and also called him over the phone for assistance.

[Chanchal could be seen along with Arun Bothra]

After two days of relentless trying a person from Nagpur provided grocery for the survival of his family. On getting a photo as a proof Chanchal believed in the power of tweeting on social media. After taking guidance from the Superintendent of Police, Bolangir Chanchal  registered the name of Madhab Nag and his wife in Odisha's Covid19 portals to bring him back to his home. On reaching home that beneficiary immediately called Chanchal and acknowledged heartfelt thanks for taking all the efforts.

On the request of Chanchal once IndiaCares, a NGO, reached AIIMS, Bhubaneswar with 2 files of blood to help a patient who was admitted in their ICU. During this pandemic, Chanchal has helped one girl student by the name Puja Agrawal of Dunguripali block  of Sonepur district who was stuck at Kota, Rajastastan. Arun Bothra as well  forwarded his helping hand in this regard since he hails from Rajasthan itself.

[Along with Kalikesh Singhdeo]

Chanchal has got the weakness for the people of his district and state. When he found people of village Sukha of Sonepur district were deprived of easy banking services as that village didn't have an ATM machine for dispensing cash. He spoke with the bank officials and even with Kalikesh Singhdeo the MP of Balangir district in this matter. And SBI setup an ATM machine for the larger interest of the people.

During the initial phases of pandemic in the year 2020 lot many Oriyas lost their jobs in different cities across India. As a consequence they started migrating back to their home state. They were walking hundreds of Miles altogether while malnourished. To address the burning need of the time Arun Bothra created a start-up by the name "India cares 2020" where is Chanchal joined as a volunteer.

[Chanchal could be seen along with Baijayant Panda]

It is worth noting how Chanchal became a disciple of Twitter within a couple of months of joining it. He opened an account in November 2015. He was casually spending time in it. But one day he noticed a tweet of his that has got a like from none other than Baijayant Panda. Jay Panda has got a verified account and the person we are talking all about is a stalwart leader of the ruling party of India i.e. Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). He is the National Vice President, a spokesperson of ruling saffron party.

The tweet of Baijayant Panda ignited the fire within Chanchal. It was a big boost to the morale of this new twitterati. Chanchal thought when his tweet can grab the attention of someone who was a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms and once MP of Lok Sabha, that means he can handle twitter with much ease.

[The death trap well]

The activities of Chanchal are not only restricted to human beings. He has got a soft corner for any other living beings. On 27th March he was in Baghala Village of Bolangir district and got to know two Dogs fell in a dry well and 13 days passed ever since. The villagers were feeding the dogs from the top for their survival because they failed to rescue them. Chanchal brought that to the notice of concern through Twitter and on the same day evening the dogs were rescued alive by the Odisha Fire department by 3 hours of untiring efforts.

So it is evident when our conscience is clear like that of Chanchal, you and I as well can help our countryman known or unknown by using Social media like Twitter as a weapon. These new age tools be it Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp are like the lamp of Aladdin if used for the right cause they can save lives.

Twich…twich…..twich………..

I remember how your tweet and follow up ideas draw the attention of railway ministry when my sister and brother in-law lost their valuables at vishakapatnam railway station. Later the valuables were found and handover by the railway police to my sister and inlaw. Thank you.
