Subhadra Sarkar : A duet of art and numbers

Subhadra Sarkar of Bangalore by qualification is a  chartered accountant.  At the outset it is essential to acknowledge how tough it is in India to acquire the degree of a Chartered Accountancy. The profession of a chartered accountant is grossly entangled with numeric. But instead of pursuing a lucrative career in either accounts or tax  consultation this girl opted for the vocation of a teacher in Applied Mathematics. During the day hour after teaching a dry subject like mathematics to children in the school Subhadra tries to break free from the routine job. During the night her mind transmigrate to the  creative world of fine art. To bring equilibrium in her life she started fiddling with pencils, brushes and paints. And she found a serene calmness in her life when so ever she did paintings.

Way back in the year 2012 she had been to an  art gallery at Montreal, Canada  that was where a quote of Pablo Picasso caught her attention. Over there it was written: “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”.  That quote greatly influenced her mind. She thought to submerge her life in colors. Ever since  every night before sleeping she started visualising art  in her mind. In the morning while having a hot cup of coffee  she  started painting whatever that she had dreamt off previous night.

From the year 2013 onwards, she is sincerely participating in different different online contests and exhibiting her artworks in social forums. Her art  has got admirers from across  the world, because she is sharing them on social media instead of any elite art galleries in Europe.

She is practicing in all mediums of art be it water colours, oil or acrylic paints. She says doing art with water colours is the most challenging job, because if you commit any mistake there is no scope to rectify it. But while doing art with acrylic paints one can modify the entire canvas.

She has sold many of her paintings to the art aficionados across the globe. Her art canvases have occupied space in the drawing rooms of many elite homes and receptions of many offices in Canada, Italy and India.

With the emergence of digital cameras, photography not only become cheaper, but become more accurate. This is the reason the present genre of artists are clicking photographs of exotic locations with their DSLR cameras. On returning to their art studio they transfer the images to the computer and do painting while observing the minute details. But Subhadra is someone who loves to do plein air art, which means doing art outdoor while looking at the subject with her bare eyes, instead of sitting indoor seeing something in photograph. She thinks this planet itself is her studio which boasts rivers, forests, mountains and even sky.  She loves to do plein air art  while feeling the touch of air; listening to the flow of stream water or chirping of the birds on the trees. This artist who is connected with nature doesn't believe in the colours which are called as cobalt blue, ultra marine blue or yellow ochre. She says the colour of nature can never be produced in any factory of the world by mixing chemical pigments.

She is a Bengali so a great fan of soccer. During her childhood while watching FIFA World Cup 1986 she became a diehard fan of Diego Maradona of Argentina. This November on the death of that greatest football player of the last Century Subhadra thought to pay her tributes. And as an artist what else she could do except doing a painting of that legend. And this artist drawn a backside view of that player with curly hair wearing an Argentina's blue coloured football jersey with the number "10". It is the jersey that has been auctioned for a staggering $ 2 Million. As usual she just posted her art without even telling who he is. On questioning she says art is something which is visible to bare eyes. There is no point in doing an art and narrating in words what it is. It is the viewer who should be left with the option to interpret the art as per his level of understanding.
