The Barpali Days

This blog is the Facebook of Barpali which picturise its "life" and "culture". It was a "palli" or a village a century back where the all time great Oriya poet swabhaba kabi Gangadhar Meher had taken birth. Now this bustling little town is renowned world-over for the weaving of Sambalpuri ikat handloom fabrics. Agriculture is its prime economy. And when you happen to visit this little town don't miss to taste Chaul bara.

E. Kiran Mohan is a writer and developer of this blog from Barpali of Odisha, India. Until now he has composed many beautiful stories that charmed the readers world over. Reading this blog Dr.Patricia Peyrat of France was  inspired to come down to a non-descriptive village called Gopaipali to help a poor girl by the name Jharna Meher who is a victim of much prevailed gender discrimination of India. To ameliorate the financial condition of this family the foreigners donated two goats and a sewing machine.

This blog brought Candace Whalen from Los Angeles and Alpa Mistri from London to this little town Barpali. His post ikat tour of Barpali by a French Lady” and “a bua” shows the true picture of the much hyped India Tourism. These posts tells the plight of the foreigners which they encounter while visiting the remote rural India. He is the one who is promoting the handloom industry of Barpali and its surrounding villages. Through his blog many foreign tourists keep pouring to this ikat hub every now and then. E.Kiran Mohan fondly called as Kiran Babu at Barpali is the un-official ambassador for all these helpless foreign tourists as because the handloom weavers are ignorant of the foreign language English.

[Kalinga TV]

This writer able to take his small town called Barpali to the world stage with the composition of many charming stories with a rural background. These stories are about the local people, their culture and lifestyle. So far he has written many charismatic stories with enticing titles like Laddu Chor, The Art of Fart, Kecho Soup, Mango Mania, Chal bo chal jhadama buro, Bhow Bhow, Hunt for the Sugar Canes and so on.

You ought to find a dose of innocence in his style of writing which would make you fall in love with this virtual town of Barpali.  He able to showcase verbally the rural atmosphere where the school going kids trouble his family while stealing berries from his backyard in the story titled “Chal bo chal jhadama buro”. In the charming story “Hunt for the Sugar Canes” you would find the scenario of how school going kids loot sugar canes when a truck load of it turn upside down due to an accident.

On the post titled “Bhow bhow” he able to narrate about the pranks of the two dogs his family is rearing.  It is the heart worming story of inter personal relation between human beings and the canines.

On the other hand “Kecho Soup” is the most heart warming story which tells how this writer found a turtle and what the difficulties he has undergone while rehabilitating it in a nearby pond. It tells how a common man could protect the nature and the environment surrounding him without hampering his daily schedule of work.

Whereas “Harvest the crop only when it matures” is that humanitarian story where this writer  had forwarded Rupees Five to an unknown unemployed youth on the streets of New Delhi and for the next four years he was chasing that youth to recover this paltry money. Based on this story, LIC of India came up with a beautiful TV advertising for its insurance product Jeevan Anand. In that television commercial they have picturised how two friends fight for Five Rupees - "Radhika ko bus mei ghumane keliye panch rupiya mene diyatha". This add is telecasted during the prime time in the news channels.

It is not that E.Kiran Mohan writes just about  the successful persons, but have worked extensively on the deprived and the destitute of his territory. Be it the story of Blind Meher’s family  where all the siblings are blind. The sad life story of handicapped girl Tulsi Meher and the boy Saurav Mishra would melt the heart of any one. Each of them got the financial help from the readers of this blog. While Tulsi Meher  got  a second hand tricycle from a gentleman of New Delhi.  Saurav Mishra got a draft from an elderly lady of Pune to meet the educational expenses for a whole year. On the other hand the Blind Mehers Family got twice the grocery  for a whole month from Nadia of Paris. And one Oriya girl Shruty Mohanty who is working in USA consecutively sent US $ 200 for two years to take care the food provisions for Sana Sahu a lone helpless woman of Barpali after browsing this blog.

  2. On 4th September 2014, 12:30 pm we had a small meeting.....
I don't know wether you remember me..... But I am pretty sure u will recollect the memory soon.... U had come to Delhi and were in a Metro Train... We had a small chat in which u had asked me to write you..... I had been looking forward to write to u but couldn't do so as I had quite a no. Of errands to run.....

Sir ur work is a price of art.... I don't know how but there is a sense of rawness about it..... Great tribute to literature........ This what others would have written to u...... I m also no different.... Just a common man with a story to tell...... Every man on this earth has one of his own..... U said u like to explore life....... Meet people and know about them...... Sir I am a big fan of Paulo Coelho.... In a short story of his he writes that if u really want to know about people instead of asking questions... Try to know there questions... Sorry sir I m a shitty writer.... But sir I write whatever comes to my mind first...... I want to learn to write well.......... Be my teacher....

  39. As our Swabhab Kabi Rangajiba Gangadhra has had inspired about the love of the nation and the love of the language through his creation, we definitely feel proud if we understand the importance of our own soil and it's different source of life. This kind of social uplifting exposure is having a splendid effect in comparison to arrangement of the bread and butter for today's requirement and saving for tomorrow. To mark the ground reality of a village kid to touch the highest pick of various social evils in the writing is capturing a special screening in the reader's memory is a huge difference. Moving every step of the life of every layer of economic ground is showing a liberal heart. Your activity may inspires more of my soil... Wishing a century of creation for my soil... Love you so much ଅଜା....
